Blog EntryIn Memoriam (a little bit late)Apr 8, '08 5:20 AM
for everyone
I should really write this a couple of days ago.
But then I think it's better late than never.

I recognized him initially from his writing on
newspaper and other media. His writing is, as Mr. T. Bachtiar said in local
paper, really touches the common people. His writing is not like he resend his
writing from the science seminar to local newspaper, it was really made for
newspaper, easy to digest by busy readers, offers practical solution, and
position himself not as a theorist, but merely someone who's willing to help by
giving advice to the people that has problem.

Born with the name of Soemarwotto, his childhood
name is Otok, which spelled Otto by his colleague at UCB, thus the name Otto
Soemarwotto. Even though his academic achievement is numerous, he seldom
mentioned his academic title in his writing, that represent his will to keep
humble and blended with the people that he helped.

One of his best achievement in my opinion is that
on March 1, 1999 he had his best present, a seminar attended by 400 personnes
including the Minister of Environment at that time, Emil Salim. That gift is a
symbol that he was closely worked with his colleague, and that his collleague is
recognizing him for his excellence in his discipline.

After his death, our local newspaper is flooded
with columns about Mr. Soemarwotto, some mentionable writer including Mr.
T. Bachtiar (Bandung Basin Research Group), and H.A.M Ruslan (Head of West Java
Legislative).
